Moms In The Military is a recipient of the Military Writers Society of America’s Silver Medal.
As much as 30 percent of the women on active duty and almost 35 percent of those serving in the Reserve and Guard are raising their children while serving in their chosen branches. That was not always the case. Fifty years ago, women had the choice to serve in uniform but lost that choice once they became a mom. And today, Congress is still dealing with the Department of Defense’s decision to force women to separate simply because they had a child.
Today, almost fifty years later, women continue to prove that motherhood is compatible with service in the Armed Forces. The women in this book have served or are serving their country and raising their children in the Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard.
Check out what this group of “moms in the military” have to say about why a woman would choose the obligation of service while tackling the responsibilities of motherhood. See how, fifty years later, they are proving that motherhood is not a barrier to military service.

Sometimes, we use words to say so much about ourselves; at other times, we use words to say so little about ourselves; and sometimes, we use words to hide behind and say nothing at all about ourselves.
It is in these times, when we are shrouded in words, that we are hiding our true selves from those closest to us and even from ourselves. We walk around shrouded in words like, “I’m fine,” “Things are good,” “I am not upset,” and my favorite, “No, nothing’s wrong.”
In this collection, I have decided to remove my shroud and to use my words to share my thoughts, my hopes, my feelings, and the glimpses I get from those around me. I hope the words I have used will give you a glimpse into who I am, what I think, and what I want for myself and those around me. More importantly, I hope they encourage you to remove some of the shrouds you might be hiding behind.

Explore the One-of-a-Kind World of Military Kids
Today, more than 1.5 million children, youth, and teens are actively supporting their parents in the United States Armed Forces. Affectionately known as military brats, while they don't sport camo or march in formation, these young people are serving in their own ways!
While service members make many sacrifices, their families—spouses and children—make their own heroic sacrifices to stand by their uniformed loved ones.
Flashback fifty years, and military moms were a rarity; balancing boots with baby bottles wasn't a thing. Fast forward to today, and moms in the military are proving that raising kids is no roadblock to serving their country. And their children are supporting them in many ways, while experiencing the ups and downs of life as military children.
In this book, these military brats of military moms spill the beans on what it's like having superhero moms who serve in the Armed Forces. Here, you can take a look at their world and discover how their unique upbringing, shaped by their moms' service, has given them a treasure trove of perspectives!
These military brats openly discuss the military lifestyle, handling their mother’s absence due to military commitment, the highs and lows of being a military brat, and more.
